Livehoods (or why Foursquare check-ins are actually valuable)
I’m glad to see valuable and actionable data developing from Foursquare check-ins. While I don’t think their interface allows particularly easy discovery, I think the concept is great. I look forward to more developments like this in the future.

I think this is great. A week or two before my trip to Turkey last summer I stumbled upon a number of 70’s-era travel guides serendipitously left on a neighbor’s stoop. Comparing the first-generation Lonely Planet guide for Turkey to the more recent edition I purchased provided great perspective on how much the country has modernized and grown economically since the first was written.
Doug Mack has done what I really should’ve: followed that vintage guide to potential ruin.
